Introduction to Chiyo
Welcome! Grab a seat, get yourself something to drink and get ready to be part of the amazing Pathfinder community that is Chiyo!
This overview will tell you mostly everything you need to know about Chiyo as a campaign and as a community.
Now what the hell did you just sign up for and what does being in Chiyo actually entail? Well Chiyo is an ambitious project that tries to bring the “Open” back into open world and the “Role play” back into role play table-top games. It’s a campaign and a community that is build and impacted by the players, you’re not send on a linear trip throughout a world where decisions you make have no impact whatsoever.
Now aside from that whole paragraph maybe sounding like something you get to hear from major gaming development companies these days, for us it’s actually the real deal. The foundation of Chiyo might be laid by a single person, but whatever follows is caused by the players and the decision they make as a character.
We have multiple DMs that will guide you through the world of Chiyo, making sure that every week there are multiple games to partake in. This ensures that you as a player will have more than enough opportunities for joining games.
Be ready for whatever background your character has to be used and be involved in the story of the world and the events that will transpire. Be ready for whatever interaction you have with PCs and NPCs alike to matter, relationships will be build, events will transpire and shit will get real.
General rules on Chiyo and the community
Being a part of Chiyo means you’ll be interacting with a lot of different people consisting of various nationalities, ages, believes, morals, etc… To ensure that each person treats each other with a certain amount of respect we set up the following rules:
sites.google.com/site/chiyowiki/rules
These are to be known by you and to be respected and upheld during all times. Whether you’re in the Skype chat or on the forums as long as you follow these you should find that we are at core a bunch of passionate people that all love roleplaying and table-top games and are looking to have a good time doing so.
Aside from these rules, be sure to be active! We really want to see this community be alive and that can only be done if everyone at least takes the effort to show that they are around. Showing your face on skype and conversing is more than enough, but the real sense of commitment comes when you go beyond that. We try to encourage people to do more than just play DnD. Whether it’s really fleshing out your character by posting stories about its pasts or what happens during the campaign, helping out by adding to the lore or making art about the world or the characters in it. We really appreciate these kinds of things and it helps us make an awesome world for everyone to enjoy and play in.
Rules and guidelines on character creation
Like any other campaign, Chiyo has its own house rules on what is accepted during character creation. We ask you to abide by these as there has gone a lot of thought into creating these and how it fits the campaign we’re playing in.
Exact rules & steps on character creation can be found here.
Now, there are a few points we want to emphasize when it comes to character creation:
You are free to ask questions concerning these rules or uncertainties. We are open for discussion on any ideas you have to see if it fits in Chiyo. Just remember these rules have a clear purpose and we are not changing them because you feel like you should be allowed to play X race or X class etc…
We are a very ROLEPLAY focused campaign. This means that your character’s backstory is going to have to have a lot of thought behind it. We ask you to take your time writing a character that feels like it belongs to the world we have gone and created for you, use the lore provided on the wiki to do this. That being said we are also here to help you with that. Post in skype or ask people directly if what you have created seems plausible and you’ll find that there are tons of people, staff or otherwise, interested and available to help you out or give their opinions.
If you are done creating your character and it has been approved, be sure to make a showcase for your character on the forums (also its MANDATORY). Of course regular members won’t be able to see your characters full background but it’s interesting for other players to have general knowledge about your character. Examples and the place to put your own showcase can be found here: chiyo.boards.net/board/30/character-showcase
How sessions work
Basically sessions in Chiyo are divided into 5 categories: Main arcs, side arcs, RP sessions, PvP sessions and Hunts. All information on a specific session will be available on the forums in the "Events" sections. A quick overview of all planned sessions can be found on the forums Event Calendar.
Main arc sessions: It's all in the name, these are the sessions that really shape the world and the characters in it. These contain the biggest changes to the overall story of Chiyo and will always be hosted by the main directors.
Side arc sessions: Not as impactful as main arc sessions, they still hold some value as to adding stories to the world. These can be run by any GM of the Chiyo staff and will as such be flavored by each GM individually.
Roleplay sessions: These are the games in which characters are able to interact with each other aside from the Main and Side arc stuff. These are always hold in and around the New Dawn Estate. Feel like there is unfinished business between your character and someone else's? This is one of the ways to do that. These will be organised from time to time by the GM's themselfs after a main or side arc but can aswell be asked after by the players. More info on Roleplay session rules can be found Here.
PvP sessions: Even though this isn't a big focus we still like to do these from time to time. Want to have some fun testing your characters combat prowess against other characters? These sessions are the ways to do that. We do want to mention though that these sessions are completely Out Of Character. They should have no impact on characters or the world whatsoever. Rules on PvP sessions can be found here.
Hunts: These are challenging, combat-heavy sessions that require teams to be prepared for combat. These sessions serve as a way for us to implement our custom rules on Magic Items and so powerful monsters killed during these will drop powerful crystal auras. The threat of death during these sessions is very real, more so than any other sessions so be prepared! Ofcourse the rewards in gold and expirience are parallel to the level of danger.
Encouraging forum activity
We would like for everyone to be as active as possible in our community, and ofcourse your effort will not go unnoticed! People who actively post interesting stories on the forums, do play-by-post RP, create art, help build the community, all these things will be awarded with a currency which you are able to spend on the forums.
Each post in each section of the forums is awarded with a forum exclusive currency called credits. These are able to be spend in The Forum Shop for things like exp and gold boosts for your character, licenses to create magical equipement, and more to be added soon. The shop is available on the little shop icon in the bottom left corner of the forums.
This is our way of hoping to increase activity and encourage you to help this community grow. Even though small things like commenting on general threads will net you a few credits, the larger quality story posts, RP, creations and such will ofcourse be awarded with more points.
Beware! This system is for encouraging proper activity and not spamming of the forums! Any repeated spamming of stupid and non-related messages will result in punishment or worse on continued abuse. We are willing to award active players, but we also don't shy away from punishing douchebags.
