It wasn’t the oddest thing that happened in a such a crime capital of Alexius, but the sight of around twenty individuals marched through the streets surrounded by guards still drew quite a crowd. Though the guardsmen moved with a sense of urgency, they cared little for subtlety and cared little for bystanders and onlookers to this mass arrest. While many discussed possibilities and the rumor wheels began to turn, some darted off into dark alleyways or hidden entrances after a glimpse at the arrestees. There were those that might find such a development of interest, and information has always been power.
As for Keran? Well, all the curious stares did little to help his peace of mind as he kept his head down and marched swiftly to keep up with the guards’ pace. ‘Last fucking time I go out of my way to help people for free. Oh, pick up a dog! Turns out to be some demonic monstrosity. Should have noticed something was up when it didn’t freak out near me… Bring the refugees to Osaka. Get arrested by the guards on sight.’ Honestly, he probably should have expected something like this though. The Zeen Corporation did have airships and had, in fact, apparently sent out orders to watch for anybody from Izmir. Couldn’t have word of the town’s wholesale massacre leaked now, could they?
It was hard to tell exactly how far the group had been led since he’d kept his head down most of the time, but Keran finally looked up as they came to a halt. The building had a distinctively different style than what was common in Osaka. Like a crude addition to an artist’s masterpiece, the central guard house was separated from the other buildings. Hard corners and flat walls of stone and mortar struck a contrast with its surroundings, but seemed all the more secure for it.
Surprisingly, the group was not led inside immediately, but moved off to the side of the front entrance where numerous cages seemed to have been set up. Forced inside, it seemed that they were being questioned before they’d be put up in an actual cell of sorts. Or just disposed of quietly out of the sight of others. Who knew. With his belongings confiscated, Keran took a few moments to glance at the others that had been put in the same cage as him. MADE BY VEL OF GS + ADOX 2.0

Nicholas was not in a good mood, it didn't really show well; considering how he never really looked 'happy' or anything of the sort. But, right now he was rightly fouled in the swing of things. Sure, he had been a tad naive suggesting the 'take them to Osaka', sure he had been foolish accepting a dog-like creature; and sure he was all the more foolish for allowing himself a glimmer of fucking hope in a situation like this. As of the moment though, he was suspicious more than anything else. The fact they were in a cage; like common beasts, was an alarming thing for him. He turned eyes toward Keran and Toe- who seemed at least introspective and quite complacent...
All things considered, he probably should be too.
Of course I had to be the fool who wanted to do right, who had to save the girl... It never goes the way of stories. His thoughts were his own on the matter; he'd hoped to get the girl in the end, and instead he found out he instead got her killed by some... Thing, out in the wilderness. Their predicament wasn't one he worried about- if anything he'd be killed before long. Well, considering how botched the mission to Izmir had been. But, then again; that had been against odds of a staggering number. More so than ever noted for the group themselves.
But, he didn't really have much to say- really; but that didn't stop him, "So, I have to ask- if we're being jailed for something we've not done, why do I have a feeling that things are going to get a whole lot worse?"

What is with that whole city pass thing, why even bother? The citizens and whatnot trying to bring business into the walls it is extra hassle, for the guards who already have 15 things to do in the day it is another thing on their list. Until their asses are on the line, procedure and protocol take precedent to reason or rationality in most of these metropolitan locales. If what they are goin' for is the sense that no one inside the walls can be bothered with anyone else then chock up another success for management.
Toe and the others had been summarily stripped of belongings before being walked to their holding cells. At least some of the other citizens of Osaka were more lively. In their great wisdom, knowing that we had been a little short on rations that whole trip, they had taken it upon themselves to personally deliver food to us who were suspected enemies of the king. Toe took most of this high velocity altruism in stride and also to the face at other times.
Hey, we wanted to get here and we got here... Mission accomplished. He thought as they had been corralled. He took to a corner and took a seat with back to bars rather than staying hunched over so he could stand. He scratched at his chin and felt how much his facial hair had grown in. He had given little thought to how he looked up until now. The current fashions he sported were nothing less than a work spanning the entire week: a generous splattering of sewage, blood, saliva and other monster gook. Give it a little bit of wear and tear from the travels, clawing, biting, goring, et cetera. Baste it in sweat and cake it with dirty, then give it a little bit of char from alchemist's fire for seasoning. The Smell will let you know when it is a complete work. Thought the locals of Osaka thought it was lacking in color, being the mottled brown it was, and chose to add their own with yesterday's leftovers.
Yeah, some people died (?) as far as he knew. Some of them because they were eager to throw their lives away in-spite of warning and others because their luck just ran out. Also lost a horse. It didn't taste like a horse much so it was safe to assume anything that got body-snatched was just swallowed and gone. What it was is the thing then tried to look like what it swallowed. What-zer-name, started with an S- he thought but her name didn't really matter any more. She knew she wasn't going to be remotely useful foraging but insisted she go anyway and managed to help get a couple of others killed. Some people have the dubious distinction of being grown up but still being like children. They can hardly do anything for their own selves, much less for others when pressed and have a habit of getting in the way of people who are trying to do business at worst.
Even an idiot kid knows when to beat it. That one that we drug into the sewers and slowed us down in Izmir talked a big game about being a warrior and so on but when things turned sour he was the first one squeezed through that gate and out of there.
The rest of this lot from Izmir, I guess their lives have gotten a little more interesting to say the least. Probably a week ago all that they had to worry about was working their trades, making their wages, buying their groceries (or paying their child support if they were a certain guard). Then it's running for their lives to a stranger's cart, camping out in the woods, eating maybe every other day and running for your lives again from some sort of toothy thing while on their way to a city they've been to maybe once every so often. It could've been worse, they could've been turned away after all that. Instead they landed in a nice cell with their buddies, it was even mostly dry.
It's high time for us to part ways with our passengers. Just a matter of when these other two want to try for it, if they want to at all. They were looking kind of beat at the gates.

Nicholas was really just bored. It wasn't hard to really see why. The day was going to be long and they had maybe only been here at most an hour. He did seem mildly amused at the fact that Toe seemed so calm. Others were freaking out; at least one person was sobbing; and here was Toe. Contemplative? That was the right word. He was already pacing and now; there was a determined air of sheer unadulterated annoyance. He didn't have his alchemical components of course- this really wasn't much of an issue. Most of alchemy was actually a fair bit of science 'magic' that you could do using Urine, Dirt; and a Shoe. But- it was more how convenient it was, and also the fact he'd not have to ruin someone's shoe to do it.
But, even so; he did have to turn an eye on Keran, the man looked... No, the man obviously was unstable. His first resort had been to burn things and that was the healthier of the options he seemed to take. But, he was reliable so... Leaving Toe to his thoughts he waded toward Keran- before reaching up to place a hand firmly on the man's shoulder.
"I don't have high hopes for this, considering last time." It was a deadpan way to go about saying 'we're screwed' in a joking manner, but there was a friendly smile, "Also, the only woman was taken over by that thing; so... It's painfully obvious the gods wish not for any entertainment for us men yeah? But, I must ask- are you feeling badly. After such an ordeal you certainly must feel... Shitty, but lose not your hope. Maybe we don't get killed..." Assuming here that Keran was a straight fellow and not fancy, although- he was trying to be friendly... Mostly; his humor was as bad as his skin condition.
The nature of his flaws meant he was taking everything he spoke not of and bottling it away, meticulously calculated for use in nightmares later.
Like a good little scientist with no friends should do.

There wasn’t much to be gleamed from the others, so after a few moments Keran simply turned his attention elsewhere. The two other members weren’t in high spirits, but then again they hadn’t seemed like the sort over the course of the journey to Osaka. Neither of them were hysterical yet, so that was good enough he supposed?
Distracted by his own thoughts and attempts to observe their surroundings surreptitiously, Keran did not have a response to Nicholas’ open question. Too focused on how difficult the padlocks would be to pick without the proper tools and why he didn’t hide some on his person, or what might be happening with those brought inside at the moment. It wasn’t until someone actually touched him that he flinched and glanced quickly at Nicholas.
He supposed this was Nicholas’ attempt at humor, but his appearance made the smile slightly off-putting rather than friendly if Keran was to be honest; not that he would though. Instead, he exhaled sharply in bitter amusement and then muttered, “Hey, Zeen Corps might take an interest in you thanks to the sample you delivered.” It wasn’t actually that farfetched of a possibility in his mind.
“Shitty? Sums up my current mood, yeah.” If it weren’t for the fact that they had all been put under arrest, everything would have been relatively right as rain. Yeah, they’d dealt with some fucking monstrosities, but he had never expected the road to Osaka to be trouble-free in the first place. Maybe not quite that horrific… A shudder racked Keran for a moment as he recalled the true form Sam had revealed, but the reaction was short lived. “Perhaps we will live yet, but you Nicholas? You seemed quite keen on taking care and treating the refugees.” MADE BY VEL OF GS + ADOX 2.0

As the group continued to talk a man in the shadows leaning on the wall decided to come forward... With a dark but elegant smile on his face he looks at Keran as says "So it seems you know something about what happened in Izmir?" Moving some of the Hair in his face he then continued as he finally reached the bars of their holdings. " I over heard you saying taking care of refugees, that seems very brave of those not connected to the military."
The man then grabs the bar with one hand to show that this conversation had just became personal.

"Considering that what you people call 'doctors' are glorified meat seamstresses with a penchant for maybe getting a case right, without use of magic that can cause permanent injury... I took it upon myself to do so." Snide alright, but firmly within his rights in his mind!~ "Well, not for nothing; I do have to keep my skill sharp after all." Brushing off the 'nothin' personelle kid' reaction this fellow seemed to be having to this. He of course just seemed very affronted that someone was obviously questioning his ability!
"But, all offense intended but not truly meant; who the devil are you?" A pertinent question!

Time to take our leave ... It's what he would be thinking to say anyway, if it looked like the others were prepared to do much. At present, waiting would have to do. Back to bars and looking over his shoulder to inspect, they seemed to be simple iron. Nothing fancy, easy to bend or break given the time and effort. Then what's the move after that? depends on what you feel like.
And so he sat in thought: I wonder what bob is doing? Probably getting his graze on or something. No idea where they stow impounded horses or carts around here. His musing over the fate of confiscated vehicles and their engines would have to wait for a moment, there seemed to be someone trying to ask him something.
It wasn't especially important, just one of the people they traveled with trying to engage in chatter. A type of conversation where his answer doesn't matter as much but the other person doesn't want to seem like a fool talking to themselves. By this point, he realized he could have gone back to his previous musings but no longer felt like it. So he continued being half in the present conversation. He missed the talking man's name, so he mentally labelled the person as 'Cheeky', full name 'Cheeky talking man'.
Cheeky: You don't seem like you're native to Izmir, Mr.Toe (short for Toeseph maybe?). May I ask what you were up to in the former fine city? Leaving
Right you are and thankfully so else I can't be sure that I would have made it out of that spot of trouble. And let me tell you, I tried to hail a carriage and they nearly ran me down. Mhmm
I couldn't gather whatever it was that caused the ruckus in the first place. I had slept in a bit, after a long night. Don't believe it was mentioned just what I was up to to now...
Apparently he wasn't native either and was going to be part of some gambling tournament. Like anything else, it was the best thing you'd never heard of. Though to be fair, even if toe had been in the area for a while or lived there his whole life he probably would know about as much of it as he did now. He did seem to have a spare set of cards and a couple of dice. Maybe they could pass time with a game; now there was an idea.
You have a deck on you, right? I was thinking maybe we could get a quick game in.
Great idea, surprised I didn't think of it myself.
The other man seated himself and brought out the cards.
And what game did you have in mind?
Nothing fancy, just a quick game of twos.
I can't say I am familiar
Toe Really didn't feel like teaching rules for a game, defeating the purpose of calling it 'quick'. How about threes, you know how to play that?
Can't say I do.
Fours?
Negative
Trailblazer?
Doesn't ring a bell
Undercut?
Not especially
Flim-flam?
No, sir.
Hyzan ratscrew?
No, but that sounds unpleasant.
Wagonwheel?
Oh, uh... nevermind, still no.
Then what do you know how to play?
I'm partial to Flumph, myself
And so they set up a game of flumph and a couple of others got in on it to pass time. Not really sure how long it had been exactly until the person showed up at the bars motioning to talk, but it had been long enough for Toe to get the edge over a few of the other players. Too bad they weren't betting (if only for lack of anything to bet with).

He didn’t quite expect such disrespect from Nicholas towards other practitioners of his own trade, but then again he didn’t know the pale-faced “doctor” all that well either. Someone of his skill probably would have found work in almost any city, which only made Keran wonder about his motivations with the New Dawn. Thoughts for a different time though when there wasn’t a blatantly suspicious individual across the bars from him.
He shrugged in response to the man’s first question before he glanced back at the others imprisoned with him and then back at Soai. “Kicking them off felt morally ambiguous at best,” he remarked flatly with a sigh; it sure would have made his life a lot easier though… Raising an eyebrow as the man stepped back, Keran shrugged and said, “Alright, what are your questions?”

Putting his hands together, he then smiles and begins to say "So tell me about you alls occupation, what were you doing before coming to Osaka?" Soai began to pace back and forth as the questions continued "Who do you all work for, you seem to be able to hold your own but dont have government papers, if you dont work for Oliver what organisation do you side with and why were you transporting all these people?"

"I work for myself mostly; after all I had a private practice at one point- but I gave it up for the opportunity to ply my craft as a doctor to those far less fortunate. By no means think that I am not oft rewarded but..." He seemed to puff with pride, "One must often sacrifice for the greater good you know... I just found these other two by chance thankfully. So I would not need to be alone and relatively defenseless in this world."

“Didn’t seem right to just kick the people off after they put the effort to hop on like I said,” Keran repeated with a tired sigh that wasn’t nearly fake enough for his liking. He really did miss his bed back at the estate… “As the good doctor said, I work for myself and whoever happens to be in charge. There’s plenty of danger outside the walls of cities like Osaka and Rosetine. If not danger, then there’s problems that need to be solved. Sometimes people need outside help to take care of things.”

"Or if they're luckier, some people of reasonable skill decide to be adventurous and seek out problems- which I admit has been a fantasy of mine since I was a lad; the tales of swords and sorcery; gnomes, orcs; fighting the fae, the sorts of legends and stories only the most gullible of children would believe themselves capable of..." His tone had actually been growing in pitch; he was gesticulating immensely now; almost a thespian in his actions and manner. He seemed quite enamoured with the idea, truly he did... But then he goes quiet, "They did however leave out how... Boring it is between bouts of kindness and heroics. And that even trying to do what is right by others leaves one drained heheha... I really, really didn't think doing the right thing and helping these people would land us here though."

What a bunch of jo-kahs, Toe though while playing another round of Flumph. Maybe they just learned how to play a week ago. I really don't want to teach anyone rules, but at this point it is hardly a game. It wasn't too hard for Toe to make a token effort at play while also picking up on other conversation and getting a word or two in; after all, the 'game' at present wasn't especially engaging for him at present.
"The other folk in here might say whatever to feel better about themselves, but as far as I can tell we are all in the same boat. As of recently being deprived of business and tools of trades, it would seem that the lot of us could squarely be pegged as unemployed. Unless playin cards accounts for a profession now-adays. As for what we were doin' in Izmir before we got here... we were leaving, cheeky would attest to the consistency of this answer when asked about an hour or so prior."
The inquiry about organizations was a little out there as far as Toe could tell. No reason for one to inquire of that to a random group of refugees in particular. Maybe they were blanket questions for all comers, maybe some people got caught, spilled and that's why we are sitting in here. Probably just more guard incompetence though. It was funny too, the question itself implies the state of being organized and that wasn't the case from here all the way back to izmir and probably for leagues before it. No matter all that, a presumptuous question it was.
"Organ-what now? Talk to the pale mumbler there that knows medicine. Anyway, Like I was saying we were leaving and A good number of people were supposedly payin when we got them someplace with some nice, strong walls. I even let them eat up my food for me (which wasn't cheap ya know, getting the extra bits to give that wandermeal some flavor)."

Soai looks at the group in odd discuest as he soon realizes that incompetence of the three men, Smiling Soai reaches into his pocket to reach for the key to the door an shortly after opens the cell door.
Soai waits for all of them to get up and walk with him towards the exit of the jail.
